Shank’s Veterinary Equipment, Inc. warrants all Shank’s Surgery Tables and/or related equipment to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of delivery or the date the equipment is put into use (whichever is later), when operated and maintained in accordance with the Owner’s Manual. Routine maintenance is the sole responsibility of the Owner. This warranty does not cover defects resulting from misuse, abuse, negligence, accidents, lack of maintenance, normal wear, alteration, modification, tampering, repair using improper parts, damage or extraordinary wear and tear of the table equipment.
There is minimal routine maintenance required to maintain the optimal function of a Shank’s Table. The hydraulics system on the table is equipped with a premium quality anti-wear hydraulic fluid. The fluid does not need to be routinely changed, and no fluid needs to be added unless some has leaked out of the system. There are a variety of grease points/zerks located on the table that should be greased with a white lithium grease several times a year. The padded top of the table should be washed with a mild soap and water after use.
The life expectancy depends on usage, customer care and maintenance. Under optimum maintenance and care, a Shank’s Table will remain an integral part of an equine practice for a period that could exceed 15 years.
Current production lead time is approximately 35-45 days from order to shipment. Shipment of a table within the U.S. is most often done by commercial truck freight. Offloading of the crate and uncrating and unpacking of the table is the responsibility of the end user. On occasion, we do offer personal delivery via a company-owned truck for a separate fee. Shipment of a table overseas from the U.S. can be made via ocean freight or via air freight. Transit time varies depending on which method of shipment is chosen and the final destination. International ocean freight typically takes approximately about one month, and international air freight takes about one week.
No, they are not manufactured to be battery-operated.
Yes, all Shank’s Tables can support a horse in either position by using various extensions that can be attached to the table. The Floor Model Surgery Table comes standard with the extensions necessary to support a horse in lateral only; to support a horse in dorsal position the optional Leg Poles and Padded Dorsal Props would need to be purchased. The Dorsal/Lateral Eqine Table comes standard with the attachments necessary for basic positioning in either dorsal or lateral recumbency.
No, all standard Shank’s Tables are made of mild (structural carbon) steel. All component parts are hot dip galvanized and painted before assembly for protection from corrosion. Test results show that the combination of galvanizing plus paint achieves an average protection of 16 years to 5% rust. A portion of the component parts (fasteners, pins, thumbscrews) are stainless steel, along with the motor shield. A stainless steel table can be ordered as a customization.
The most cost effective model would be the Shank’s Modified Portable Floor Model Surgery Table, based solely on its overall cost.
The padding on all Shank’s Tables would be sufficient only in a very short procedure and only in dorsal recumbency. In all other instances, it is necessary to use additional padding or cushioning. We fabricate and sell a variety of foam pads that can be used in dorsal or lateral recumbency to provide adequate support. However, water or air mattresses can be used as well.
The most versatile table in our product line is the Dorsal/Lateral Cylinder Base Equine Table. This table is mobile (in a clinic setting), and can tilt 4-ways via hydraulics, allow for Trendelenburg positioning. However, this table does have the highest lowered height at 22-1/2″ (57.15 cm). Depending on how the horse will be loaded onto the table, this lowered height may not allow for enough overhead clearance to lift the horse onto the table. All factors impacting loading of the sedated horse onto the table (ceiling height; hoist or lifting mechanism; lifting hobbles; surgery table lowered height; additional table padding/cushioning) should be taken into account when determining which model Shank’s Table would best meet your needs.
The most popular model sold is the Dorsal/Lateral Scissor Base Equine Table. We feel it is the most popular because both of its table top configuration, and it’s lowered height.
There a four (4) basic tables that are on wheels and movable within a clinic setting. The Floor Model Surgery Table is available in two models. The Modified Portable is the least expensive table we manufacture and has 1 basic hydraulic function – raising and lowering. The Portable has both hydraulic lift and 2-way tilt via hydraulics. Either model can be ordered with an optional 84″ (213cm) long top. The Dorsal/Lateral Equine Table has a center section and 6 hinged adjustable wings and a lateral surface that is 46″ x 84″ (117cm x 213cm).
